Matthew Kopec

Matt is the Program Director for Embedded EthiCS at Harvard, an educational program that embeds short modules on the ethical and social implications of computing technologies into courses across Harvard’s CS curriculum. He received his doctorate in Philosophy from University of Wisconsin - Madison in 2012, after which he taught courses in ethics, epistemology, logic, and philosophy of science at University of Colorado - Boulder, Northwestern, Australian National University, and Northeastern. His current research focuses mostly on issues related to Artificial Intelligence, like AI companions, cognitive harms from chatbot use in education, big tech regulation, and ethical tech entrepreneurship. And as a Lecturer for Harvard's Department of Philosophy, he also teaches courses and advises undergraduate theses on the normative implications of AI and other computing technologies.
