Dr. Emily Rubin is a pulmonary critical care physician and co-chair of the clinical ethics committee at Massachusetts General Hospital and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. She has extensive experience navigating ethical conflicts that arise in the care of patients at the end of life. She has conducted research related to treatment preferences of patients with serious illness, decision-making regarding the initiation and cessation of life-sustaining treatments, resolution of conflicts in the intensive care unit, and multiple other topics related to ethics and end of life decision making. She played a leading role in the development of allocation protocols for scarce resources during the Covid-19 pandemic at both the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Mass General Brigham health system levels.
Rabbi Dr. Shlomo Brody is executive director of Ematai, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people navigate their healthcare journey with Jewish wisdom. A columnist for The Jerusalem Post since 2007, Rabbi Brody previously served as founding director of the Tikvah Overseas Students Institute, as a senior instructor at Yeshivat Hakotel, and as a junior research fellow at the Israel Democracy Institute. His first book, A Guide to the Complex: Contemporary Halakhic Debates, received a 2014 National Jewish Book Award. A summa cum laude graduate of Harvard College, he received rabbinic ordination from the Israeli Chief Rabbinate, an MA in Jewish philosophy at the Hebrew University, and his Ph.D. from Bar Ilan University Law School.
