New Role for Maggie Gates
ELSCE will bid a fond farewell to Assistant Director of Communications and Development, Maggie Gates, this week. Maggie will be joining The Carr Center for Human Rights Policy on June 12 as their new Executive Director.
Maggie has been at the Center since 2015 and has worn many hats during that time. She first arrived as a Fellow in Harvard’s Administrative Fellows Program to work on a project with former faculty affiliates Laurence Ralph and Aisha Beliso-De Jesús. Since then, she has run the Center’s events on an interim basis, project managed the Justice, Health & Democracy Impact Initiative in its formative stage, and accepted progressively more responsibility for the Center’s communications and development efforts, leading to her current assistant director role where she heads both functions. During that time, Maggie also joined the University’s Committee for the Concerns of Women, then their Executive Committee, and finally became one of the two Co-Chairs who led the development of numerous events under their aegis over the past two years.
Maggie has been a warm and welcoming colleague to all at the ELSCE. Her energy and laughter have been appreciated by faculty, fellows, and staff, helping set the tone for the lively-yet-productive atmosphere that characterizes the Center. As a colleague and supervisor, she has been an empathetic listener and enthusiastic mentor. Her dedication and engagement over the past eight years has strengthened the Center and will have a lasting impact.
In the short term, Maggie's Center duties will be shared by Meg Yoder on the communications front, and Jonathan Hack on the development front.
Maggie has been a vital and dynamic part of our work. Her ELSCE colleagues wish her continued success in all that she does!
