Congratulations to ELSCE undergraduate fellows Hannah Duane '26 and Tenzin Gund-Morrow '26! They have been named 2026 Marshall Scholars and are part of a cohort of 43 American scholars chosen this year from over 1,000 applicants.
Duane and Gund-Morrow have earned fully funded opportunities to pursue advanced study in the United Kingdom under the Marshall Scholarship program, established by the British Parliament as an expression of gratitude for U.S. support in World War II.
We asked Hannah and Tenzin to share a bit about how their time at the Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics has supported their work. Here's what they said:
I'm still in shock and disbelief about the announcement, but it's mostly just gratitude that fills me now. Not only did mentors and advisors help me at every step of this arduous application process, but I've been lucky enough to have those same people pouring into me over the entirety of the past four years—people like Professor Applbaum and Professor Beerbohm at the Center. This community has been such a beacon for my academic and personal development at Harvard. As I pursue a Masters in Public Policy and MSc in Regional and Urban Planning Studies over the next two years, I will always carry with me the lessons of ethical governance and principles of civic discourse that were taught in countless Safra seminars and special lectures.
The Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics has been so important to my finding intellectual community and mentorship at Harvard. From public lectures to office hours to Center dinners, I am so grateful to the ELSCE for supporting me in asking questions and developing my own point of view.
