Meier](https://www.ethics.harvard.edu/people/lukas-meier) received the [Young Researcher Award for Ethics in Medicine by the Academy for Ethics in Medicine (AEM)](https://aem-online.de/nachwuchspreistraeger-2025/) on October 9, 2025 in Munich.

This year's prize was jointly awarded to Lukas J. Meier (Cambridge, MA and Munich) and Aaron D'Sa (Cambridge, UK) for their outstanding research on the ethical and legal implications of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in relation to medical decision-making and patient autonomy. The AEM jury commended their work for its rigorous structure and its significant contribution to ongoing debates in medical ethics.

From the AEM website: *"The **Academy for Ethics in Medicine** is an interdisciplinary and interprofessional professional society for ethics in healthcare. It promotes public and scientific discourse on ethical issues in medicine, the health professions, and healthcare. The AEM Young Researcher Award, endowed with €2,500, is awarded annually. It recognizes academic work by young researchers in the field of medical ethics."*
